I am pleased to present to you the 2008 Kellogg Guide to Practical Leadership. The publication provides lessons drawn from cutting-edge research conducted by the Kellogg School’s faculty and rich reflections from senior business executives. We’re extraordinarily grateful to our contributors for delving into a range of topics that include crisis management, managing multicultural teams in a globalizing world and moving from success toward a longer-lasting significance through social change.
Each article reflects a core value that supports our mission to create global leaders in a culture of collaboration and innovation. Our belief is that leadership and management education more broadly is composed of four key themes: intellectual depth, experiential learning, global perspectives and leadership & social responsibility.
Every article touches on at least one of these areas, but it is the overall impact of
these pieces that serves as a roadmap for thinking about both not just the practice of
leadership, but what that term really means.
I also would like to take the opportunity to thank the student team and contributing writers for their efforts in making 2008 Kellogg Guide to Practical Leadership possible. This publication embodies the collaborative efforts of all those involved and signifies Kellogg’s ongoing pursuit of leading the way for management education.
I encourage all those who read this to view the 2008 Kellogg Guide to Practical Leadership as a valuable resource. By drawing on key concepts in business fundamentals, innovative academic research, and practical lessons, the contents of this guide offers dynamic and inspiring insights into leadership principles that can be found through the Kellogg School.
